Papers, 1975-1977.

The collection consists mainly of correspondence dated 1975 to 1977 exchanged among Elizabeth Shor, Marston Sargent, William A. Nierenberg, members of the Sverdrup Family, the Glydendal Norsk Forlag Universitets of Oslo, Norway and representatives of the Arctic Institute of North America concerning the publication of an English translation of Harald Ulrik Sverdrup's Tundra People. The book was published originally in Norwegian by the Glydendal Norsk Forlag in 1938 as Hos Tundra-Folket. The translation was made by Mrs. L. J. (Mollie) Sverdrup, wife of Harald Sverdrup's brother. Dr. Sverdrup made minor revisions. The collection also includes 34 black and white photographs.

Vacquier was born in Russia in 1907; moved with parents to the United States in 1923. Received M.S. in physics from University of Wisconsin in 1928. Designed instrumentation for geophysical research. Most recently a professor emeritus of geophysics at Scripps Institution of Oceanography; widely known for creating the flux-gate magnetometer.
